If you are coming into town to enjoy The Highlands of Durham Games on Sunday you may want to stop over at the Arenafor the Uxbridge Farmers Market.  This Sunday there will be face painting and balloon animals with Sunflower the Clown. Williamson's Motors will be there with free water. There will be a free draw for a huge market basket. Along with the food vendors and the farmers will be an assortment of crafters and artisans.

Muskoka, Ontario - If you missed the Uxbridge Rib Fest all is not lost it's a short drive to Bracebridge for their 3rd Annual Muskoka In-Water Boat & Cottage Show AND Rib Fest taking place this weekend.

With free admission these two events have joined together at the Muskoka Wharf in Bracebridge to bring some  entertainment and excitement to the summer season. There will be in land and water displays of local marina's vendors, live entertainment, great variet of ribs, corn on the cob and the perverbial beer garden to wash it all down.

Last summer we took a little road trip to Baysville for their Classic and Antique Boat and Car Show where we saw this 1930 Cord ..... What a beauty

This year the Classic and Antique Boat and Car Show will take place on August 15th from 12 to 4 pm and if all goes according to schedule the newly relaunched S.S.Bigwin will make it's way down toBaysville for a special appearance. Back this year are the Northern Lights Steel Orchastra Band (well worth the trip just to hear them again)

Road Trips - Muskoka, Ontario - The Baysville Walkabout Festival

Saturday July 24th, 2010 - 9am to 4pm

This is a great opportunity to visit this picturesque little town at the foot of the Lake of Bays. With over 120 arts and crafts vendors there will be something for everyone.

Arrive early and enjoy a pancake breakfast along side the Muskoka river. If you arrive after breakfast is all done there will be other food and refreshment vendors.

The kids will enjoy the clowns, face painting and pony rides while you may enjoy the live band or music from the disc jockey.

All in all it sound like a great day

Uxbridge Ontario - A Stay-cation Destination - Highlands of Durham Games

Come and experience this Celtic festival and celebration as you enjoy a wee bit of Old Scotland. This two day festival celebrating your Celtic roots takes place at Elgin Park July 24th and  25th. Events include plenty of great musical entertainment, Celtic livestock demonstrations and displays, highland dancing competitions, Pipes and drums, and heavy event competitions, watch a dry stonewall demonstration, something for all ages.

This year's entertainment features Poor Angus who will be playing throughout the weekend along with the mass bands. Watch Mike Patten of Heritage Walls, as he and other participants work together to build a beautiful stone wall.

An enjoyable and educational part of the Games is the livestock shows. You wiil have an opportunity to see different animals of Celtic origin such as the Scottish Shorthorn, Ayrshire, and Highland or perhaps a Soay or a Connemara and of course the Clydesdale. If you're a dog lover the show will include many breeds such as the border collie, the Dandie Dinmont Deerhound, Smooth Hair Collie, Bearded Collie, Long Hair Collie, Sheltie, Gold Retriever, Gordon Setter, West Highland Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Cairn Terrier and the Skye Terrier.

When you think of Highland Games you also think of good food and good drink and the opportunity to enjoy a wee taste of Scotland.. Come and join the fun as we celebrate this 16th annual family event.

Ontario - Day Trips - Battle of Britain Air Show

It's Saturday evening and if you live in Uxbridge Ontario you may have been to the Cruz on Thursday the Foster on Friday or perhaps you were an early bird visitor to the Uxbridge Rib Fest. If you missed the early bird edition perhaps you spent the day at Elgin Park starting with breakfast and right into the ribs as the day wore on, now you want somethig for tomorrow.

Battle of Britain Air Show 

Perhaps a little road trip is in the wind for you. If you are headed up into the Penetangushine area you may want to head over to Midland for the Battle of Britian Air Show.

What's that you say to far .....  then you could always pop up to Bracebridge for their Art In The Heart Show where emerging artists showcase their work in the walkways and alleyways of downtown (tomorrow Sunday the 18th is the last day). You could also take in the Muskoka Arts and Crafts Show at Annie Williams Memorial Park

Before you return home stop off for Music on the Barge at the Gull Lake Rotary Park  This week it is Shania Twin (free concert) last week we enjoyed some great nostalgic music as the Carverners (Canada's Beatles tribute show) put on a wonderful show.

Rib Fest - A Staycation Destination- Uxbridge, Ontario

This year the line up of events and features include a Midway, classic car show, Craft Vendors,  Entertainment, and of course 5 Ribbers for you to choose from. Sunday kicks off with Lions once again offering a pancake breakfast starting at 8:00am. Musical entertainment includes the Don Bowes Big Band and The Malcom Edwards Showband from 1pm to 5:30pm. Before you know it, it's 6:30pm and time for the closing Closing ceremonies.

The Purple Turtle Art Festival - Georgina, Ontario - A Staycation Destination

With it's ideal location, stretching along the south shore of Lake Simcoe, the various communities of Georgina are host to many events that are a draw to this tourist orientated town. In the winter there is always snowmobiling, ice fishing and of course the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship. In the summer there's boating and angling along with The Blue Bridge Festival The Eaglewood Folk Festival, the Georgina Studio Tour and of course the Purple Turtle Art Festival.

Saturday and Sunday July 10 and 11th take in the Antique And Classic Boat Show at the Muskoka Warf in Gravenhurst. Saturday features wood boats and Sunday classic glass boats and classic cars. enjoy the ever popular Field of Dreams, flea market and classic cars. Last years show Swinging By The Bay - A Stay-cation Destination was a huge success and this year is shaping up to be even better.

Sunday make it a double header by taking in the boat show and then stop by the Gull Lake Rotary Park (7:30 show time)for some great nostalgic music as the Carverners (Canada's Beatles tribute show) entertain you. (rain venue - Gravenhurst Opera House)

Grand Old Ladies Of The Lake

Here are a few of the larger historic boats that you will likely see at the show

Built in 1887 the Segwun is the oldest operating steam ship in North America and the 7th oldest in the world. These ships were built to deliver mail and passengers to the various resorts and cottages on the Muskoka Lakes. Today they are a major tourist attraction for the area offering scheduled cruises and dinners on the lakes.

Uxbridge, Ontario - A Community With A Heart  - Ride For Africycle

Saturday July 10th Elgin Park Start

For those not already taking part in the 10 day bike ride around Lake Ontario there are three rides that depart from Elgin Park on Sunday July 11th. There is one for evey level of bike enthusiast starting with the 100K fast paced ride through the 50k moderate to the 15 / 25k "casual Ride".

Riders are expected to raise pledges of at least $30.00 for the 100k ride or $25 for the shorter rides. Africycle relies very heavily on the ongoing support, generosity and involvement of Uxbridge residents.

"Market More Balanced in June

July 6, 2010 -- Greater Toronto REALTORS® reported 8,442 sales through the Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) in June. This represented a 23 per cent decrease compared to the record 10,955 sales reported in June 2009. Sales for the second quarter of 2010 amounted to 28,810 - up one per cent annually. Year-to-date sales through June were up 23 per cent to 50,455 compared to the first six months of 2009.

"We experienced a record number of existing home sales during the first half of 2010, but these sales were weighted more towards the beginning of the year," said Toronto Real Estate Board President Bill Johnston. "The pace of home sales has moderated from record levels over the past two months with the prospect of higher mortgage rates."

The average price for June transactions was $435,034 - up eight per cent compared to the average of $403,972 recorded for June 2009.

"With more homes to choose from in the second quarter, many home buyers have been making less-aggressive offers. This has resulted in less upward pressure on the average selling price," said Jason Mercer, TREB's Senior Manager of Market Analysis. "The annual rate of average price growth in the second half of 2010 will be in the single digits."
